Hello, dear readers! It's been a bit, but I've returned with a satchel full of golfing tales to regale you with. In an effort to keep a long story less lengthy, let's dive right in.
First up, a rendezvous with the fairways at Fox Run in Iowa with Cisco Kid. Ah, the siren song of the 18-hole adventure! I danced with consistency on the front nine, firing a 45. But then, temptation struck at the turn in the form of a drink (or two), and lo and behold, the wheels started to wobble. Shanks paid a surprise visit, and I stumbled to a 54 on the back. But fear not, the streak of sub-100 rounds lives on with a 99! I couldn't help but wonder if my drinking angered the golfing gods.
Now, let's pivot to the family front. Hold onto your visors, folks, because my wife and daughters are still interested! They're smitten with this beautiful, vexing game. First, it was my better half's turn under the golfing microscope. Her instructor at Golf USA worked some kind of swing magic, turning her into a swing sensation in just 45 minutes! And what did she want to do right after? Hit the range, of course! Talk about enthusiasm, folks.
Then, my dynamic duo of daughters joined the golfing party. The same instructor, unfazed by the challenge of teaching one right-handed and the other left-handed, worked his wizardry once again. Both emerged with swings that would make seasoned pros do a double-take. Range sessions ensued, and I couldn't be prouder of their commitment to this wild golfing journey.
And now, for a change of scenery – a scramble event at Indian Creek Golf Club, courtesy of a generous vendor. I found myself teamed up with IT comrades and a buddy I affectionately dub "Mer-Man." Would you believe it? Mer-Man, a golfing novice, had only just dipped his toes into the golfing waters. We had a blast, jamming to 90s hip-hop while shanking our way through the course. I even talked him into a lesson at Golf USA, where he claims to have acquired a brand-new swing. I'm starting to think I should get a commission for all the business I'm sending their way!
Lastly, a delightful sojourn to a local par-3 course with my wife. Her first time back on the course since her lesson, and boy, did she impress. Her shots showed flashes of brilliance, especially on the last hole where she nailed the green with her tee shot! As for me, I shot a respectable 36, but the putter decided to join the ranks of the rebels, contributing a frustrating 22 strokes.
Oh, and the cherry on top? My handicap now floats below 20 for the very first time – a sweet 19.5 to be precise. Golf, family, and a dash of hip-hop with Mer-Man, it's been quite the adventure these past few weeks. Can't wait to see where this golfing journey takes us next. Until next time, folks!
Current GHIN Handicap: 19.5
